Shon C. Baker, PhD, CFRE

Vice President of Philanthropy

Shon Cowan Baker, PhD, CFRE is Vice President for Philanthropy at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shon leads the Ochsner Philanthropy team in connecting donors to the health system’s world-class care through strategic philanthropic outreach. With more than a decade of experience leading development strategy and comprehensive fundraising activities, she assists Ochsner’s efforts to lead the nation in quality patient care and life-changing discoveries. Shon received the Ochsner Health CEO’s 2020 Game Changer of the Year award recognizing her transformational impact on the Philanthropy Department and the health system. 

Shon earned a B.S. from Campbell University, M.A. from the University of Holy Cross and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Her research interests include examining the impacts of transformational donations on the mission of large nonprofit institutions, female philanthropic leadership, philanthropy in communities of color and feminist philanthropy. 

Shon is the current president of Friends of City Park and is a former board member of Dress for Success New Orleans, is former Vice President of the Board of Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre and former board member for the Junior League of New Orleans. Shon was named 2018 Healthcare “One To Watch” by the Baton Rouge Business Report, 2017 Top New Orleans Female Achiever by New Orleans Magazine and was named a 2015 New Orleans City Business Healthcare Hero. 

Committed to her community, Shon has chaired many of New Orleans’ favorite and most successful fundraisers including: Young Leadership Council’s Streetcar Named Desire Gala, the Preservation Resource Center’s Julia Jump, City Park’s Martini Madness, Dress for Success’ Suits and Salads Luncheon, Le Petit Theatre’s Curtain Call Ball, Firstline School’s Edible Evening and City Park’s Lark in the Park.
