What is the Purpose of First Trimester Ultrasound?
Sukari Theard, maternal-fetal medicine lead sonographer, explains the purpose of the first-trimester ultrasound is to determine an estimated due date and is best performed at eight to 10 weeks of pregnancy.
During the ultrasound, the sonographer will get measurements of the baby, obtain the baby's heart rate and take images of the mother's ovaries and uterus.
