Pediatric Patient Designs 2020 Buddy of the Year

When Cameron started experiencing major symptoms in his abdomen, his mom new something wasn't right. After discovering that he had a ruptured appendix, Cameron was treated at Ochsner Children's to have his appendix removed. During recovery, Cameron bonded with his Child Life Therapist, Katie Thibodeaux, as she made his road to recovery easier and more enjoyable.

Earlier this year, pediatric patients were asked to design the 2020 Buddy of the Year. The Buddy of the Year program is an initiative to brighten our pediatric patient’s spirits and showcase their creativity while also giving back to Ochsner Children’s various programs. After narrowing down the submissions, three finalists were chosen. The three finalists’ designs were posted on the Ochsner Children's Facebook page for the public to vote for the winner.

When asked to design what he wanted Ochsner's inaugural Buddy of the Year to be, he instantly knew who his inspiration would be. Cameron chose to draw Katie, and his design was chosen as the winner.

Cameron's design was turned into an actual stuffed toy. While some toys were held to give to chronically ill pediatric patients, most are on sale now with all proceeds benefiting Ochsner Children's. Only a limited supply is available, so collect yours now before the 2020 doll goes into the vault, and we prepare for 2021.
