How Does COVID Affect the Nervous System?
Many people think of the respiratory symptoms that go along with COVID-19, but as the weeks have gone on, doctors realized the nervous system -- the brain, spinal cord and nerves -- can become involved.
Neurologists Richard Zweifler, MD and Cuong Bui, MD discuss how COVID affects the nervous system in this video interview.
Bui said there are still a lot of unanswered questions, but "the data is pretty clear that in a high percentage of patients, up to a third of patients with COVID will also have concurrent neurologic symptoms.'' Loss of taste and smell are two of those symptoms.
