How Can I Reduce Pain from Achilles Tendinitis?

Pinterest Logo

Whether it's the cause or  the symptom of Achilles tendinitis, patients often develop a very tight calf and Achilles tendon. Doing proper stretches can help resolve symptoms of tendinitis. Ochsner Foot and Ankle Specialist, Dr. Sara Galli shares the best way to heal, or reduce pain in Achilles tendinitis.

There are two types of Achilles tendinitis. There's Achilles tendinitis that occurs when the Achilles tendon attaches to the heel bone and then there's Achilles tendinitis that relates to the tendon higher up. When a patient's tendinitis relates to where the tendon attaches to the bone, it often is related to a bone spur that develops in that area as a result of the chronic irritation or inflammation of their Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, in this case, it's not as simple as removing the bone spur. Luckily, Achilles tendinitis can usually be treated with a stretching program and isolation before a medical procedure is even an option.
