Could You Benefit from Health Coaching?

If you’ve ever tried to change your lifestyle to improve your health, you know how difficult it can be. And while having support from a friend or loved one is great, sometimes you need a professional. That’s where Ochsner Health Coaching comes in. Our health coaches can help you reach your wellness goals, no matter how broad or specific.

What Is Health Coaching?

Health coaching is all about empowerment. It is a service designed to help people improve their health. Health coaches work with patients to identify areas of improvement that are important to them, set and achieve health goals, and provide supportive accountability and guidance for overcoming obstacles throughout their journey.

It could involve giving someone the tools and confidence they need to be more active in their care, or it could involve helping a person with diabetes manage their blood sugar.

No two health coaching programs are alike. People make health coaching what they need it to be, and everyone gets something different out of health coaching.

Who Can Benefit from Health Coaching

Health coaching has long been available to people who need help managing a chronic disease, such as diabetes, back pain or heart disease. But in reality, everyone can benefit from health coaching. And really, we need it now more than ever.

Throughout the pandemic, our lives have been turned upside down more than once. There’s so much change happening around us, and we are doing so much from home: eating, exercising, working, etc. Health coaching can help people develop strategies for creating boundaries and adapting to this new way of living.

An Ochsner health coach can help you with a wide range of health-related topics, including:

  • Blood pressure control
  • Blood sugar control
  • Cholesterol reduction
  • Chronic disease management
  • Financial well-being
  • Life satisfaction
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Stress management
  • Time management
  • Tobacco cessation
  • Weight management

Does a Health Coach Replace Well Visits with My Doctor?

Health coaches are not medical providers, and therefore cannot diagnose or treat conditions, or prescribe medication. They do not replace preventive care with your primary provider. Rather, they enhance it.

Health coaches help bridge the gap between clinicians and patients. They can help you navigate the healthcare system and offer overall emotional support to those coping with illnesses. That means referring patients to nutrition, exercise and mental health specialists, when necessary.

How Can I Sign Up for Health Coaching?

Health coaching is included in all Ochsner Concierge Health primary and add-on memberships*.

*Health coaching is not included in adult-child Concierge Health memberships.

Beyond the Bubble Bath: Getting Back to the Heart of Self-Care

Self-care may have become an excuse to order delivery or sneak in some online shopping at work, but the philosophy behind it is still important. Get back to the roots of self-care by taking care of your mental and physical well-being before you’re over-stressed, burned-out and exhausted. We can help.
