AI Technology to Save Lives in Real Time

Powered by Cloud and AI technology from Epic and Microsoft, a new early warning system at Ochsner Health is one of the first in the country to use artificial intelligence (AI) for patient care.

Deploying a predictive model via Epic powered by Microsoft Azure has enabled Ochsner's Rapid Response Team (RRT) to intervene on patients proactively, rather than reactively, in real-time. During the 90-day pilot, the team successfully reduced adverse events outside of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by 44 percent.

Additionally, Ochsner Health and Epic were named a recipient of Microsoft Corp.’s 2018 Health Innovation Awards. The awards recognize health organizations and their technology solution partners for using Microsoft’s technologies in innovative ways that help engage patients, empower care teams, optimize clinical and operational effectiveness, and transform health.
