4 Tips for a Basic Skincare Routine
Taking better care of your skin is often an overlooked goal. This year, why not embrace a renewed commitment to skincare? The good news is that an everyday skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are four tips to improve your skin:
- Protect your skin from the sun. Use SPF 30 or higher and don't forget your ears, neck and chest when you apply sunscreen. Sunscreen is important for everyone to wear regardless of age or skin color. Not only are you limiting your risks of developing skin cancers, you can also slow down your skin’s aging process.
- Use a retinoid. Retinoids can help decrease the appearance of fine lines, improve discoloration as well as brighten up your skin. Retinoids come in many forms. There are over-the-counter options, such as ones from ROC or CeraVe. If you are looking for more potent forms of retinoids, your dermatologist can prescribe one that is most fitting for your skin type.
- Perform self-checks on your skin every six months and note any changes.
- Visit with a dermatologist at least once per year. Along with discussing your skincare routine, your dermatologist can document significant moles that you have on your body. When you return for your next appointment, they will be able to detect any differences and move forward with a treatment plan, if needed.
Our skin protects us from the world that we're constantly exposed to everyday. Now is the time to start thinking new year, new skin.
