Surveen received both her master of social work and her master of public health from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a licensed clinical social worker and holds specialist certification as a board approved clinical supervisor in the state of Louisiana. She is trained in clinical social work practice, with a special interest in health, education and health systems management. Surveen specializes in the areas of medical social work, including chronic illnesses, transplantation and living organ donation.
