Dr. Charles Yu is a fellowship-trained, board-certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon at Ochsner Health with clinical experience in the comprehensive treatment of spinal disorders from the neck through the lower back. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology-Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis. He then went on to medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, during which time he received the Harold M. Frost MD Resident Researcher of the Year Award in 2019, as well as the Charles Townley Resident Best Manuscript Award in the state of Michigan. Dr. Yu completed his fellowship training in Orthopedic Spine Surgery at Norton Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Yu treats a range of spine-related conditions, including spinal injuries, adult and pediatric spinal deformity, fractures, infections, degenerative disease, tumors, nerve disease and disc herniation and stenosis. Dr. Yu is experienced in a range of highly specialized procedures, including fusions, discectomy, arthroplasty, laminoplasty, laminectomy, minimally invasive procedures, and robotic-assisted surgeries. Dr. Yu is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine. He was named Teacher of the Year by the Ochsner Orthopaedic Surgery residents. Dr. Yu has an interest in the advancement of Spine Surgery through research and has published multiple peer-reviewed scientific articles. His research has been presented at several national and international orthopaedic conferences. Dr. Yu is a fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). He is an Emerging Leader of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA). He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the North American Spine Society (NASS), among others.
