Why is Women's Health Important?
Why is women's health important? In this conversation series, Dr. Lydia Lewis, Dr. Evelyn Griffin and Lauren Heller, CNM, discuss various topics about women's health. Together, they offer advice on choosing an OB/GYN, the benefits of having a midwife, and how midwives and physicians work together at Ochsner Health.
They also address popular women's health questions, including how often women should have a physical exam, menstrual health and irregular periods, sex, PCOS, gynecologic robotic surgery, pregnancy and childbirth services, infertility, mammograms, and breast cancer, Pap tests and mental health awareness for women.
They also encourage women and teens not to feel embarrassed or unwilling to ask questions. Dr. Griffin said, "Bring up absolutely anything. Women sometimes don't have anyone to go to. Sometimes it is difficult to talk with their family or friends. When you come in to your doctor, feel free to discuss that with us. If your OB/GYN happens to be your only doctor, I can tell you we are well-equipped. We have heard it all, to some degree. There's nothing that is going to surprise us, so please feel comfortable."
