Imagine this all too familiar scenario: You wake up in the middle of the night with a stomach bug. You wait it out until the morning, then debate whether to see your doctor or go to urgent care. After two hours in waiting and exam rooms, you leave with a prescription to take to your local pharmacy.
Now consider this much more convenient experience: You wake up in the middle of the night with a stomach bug. You call your concierge physician and hop into a telehealth visit with them. They call in a prescription for you to your local pharmacy, then schedule a follow-up visit.
That’s the idea behind Ochsner’s new Concierge Health program, launching in 2020. Ochsner Concierge Health centers around unparalleled convenience and access to your physician. The program is all about health and wellness and our Concierge Health team will serve as a dedicated health partner providing a proactive approach to reaching your health and wellness goals. The patient-centered service offers 24/7 access to a team of concierge physicians, plus wellness lab work, health assessments, nutritional consultations and fitness evaluations. Bonus: You’ll enjoy free valet parking every visit.
“Concierge health really puts the patient’s best interest, the patient’s convenience and the patient’s preferences at the center,” says Emily Degan, manager for Ochsner Health and Wellness Solutions.
Wondering if concierge health is right for you? Degan answers the most common questions about this new offering.
How is concierge health different than a traditional general practitioner?
Think of Concierge Health as a dedicated team focused on helping you achieve your health and wellness goals. In addition to 24/7 access to your concierge physician, you’ll also have access to a team of dietitians and health coaches committed to your wellness goals as well as scheduling coordinators to help you navigate our health system, hassle-free. The visits with our team are longer, more comprehensive and more personalized than a typical doctor’s appointment.
What exactly does 24/7 access mean?
Gone are the days of calling a doctor’s office, leaving a message and hearing back 48 hours later. Concierge patients will have access to a dedicated phone line, says Becky Childress, RN, manager of clinical operations. Your physician will call you back and provide you with his or her direct phone number for further questions.
As a concierge patient, you can also take advantage of on-demand telemedicine visits. The telehealth platform connects you and your physician through secure video via your smartphone, tablet or computer. Physicians can diagnose, prescribe necessary medication and outline follow-up care through these virtual visits.
What about my other doctors?
“Think of your concierge physician as the quarterback for your healthcare team,” Degan says. Whether you have existing specialists or need to visit a new one, your concierge team will help coordinate your care and stay involved throughout the whole process.
As part of the Concierge Health program, you’ll also have a dedicated scheduling coordinator, who can set up any additional testing or specialty appointments, Degan says. That means easy, priority appointments with one quick call to your concierge clinic.
Can I enroll my whole family?
The concierge health program currently does not include pediatrics. However, there is a family enrollment discount for adult patients.
Concierge Health launches in Spring 2020 at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. The program will expand to additional regions in 2021 and 2022. Learn more about the program and join today.
