Krewe de Quit Helps Smokers Kick the Habit

Working as a tobacco cessation counselor for the past 8 years, the successes I’ve seen my clients accomplish has been a very rewarding experience. However, reaching that goal to quit smoking can be very challenging as not only do my clients have to deal with  nicotine addiction, but also the actual habit of smoking that has become a part of their everyday life.

Quitting smoking is very hard when clients try to stop on their own without the help of a good support system or someone who they can reach out to when things gets tough. That’s why other available resources such as quit lines, counselors like myself, and smoking cessation medications can help provide that extra support for smokers who want to quit for good. One example of a new resource available for those trying to quit is Krewe de Quit, a support system that is easily accessible for today’s busy lifestyles.

Krewe de Quit is a great tool for smokers to use for support to supplement the help of a counselor by recruiting friends, family, co-workers or other loved ones to support one’s efforts to become a non-smoker. By signing up for this program at Krewedequit.org, participants receive free resources (in addition to a few fun items). This website has the capability to keep track of how many days one has quit in addition to how that quantity of days equates to more money in one’s pocket and more time added to his or her life span.

The extra support that a smoker may need during tough times when attempting to quit can be as easy as a touch or text away with Krewe de Quit. The help from your quit coach (like me) and the support of your “krewe” increases the success and ease of becoming a non-smoker. Smokers can start their personal krewe (this is where friends, family, co-workers or loved ones can join in) so they know that they are not alone in their efforts to quit.

Please note it can take 9-12 quit attempts in a lifetime for someone to quit smoking, but smokers should take heart that support will increase their success when quitting.

So if you smoke or if you may know someone who smokes, sign up for Krewe de Quit today or encourage your friends or loved ones to sign up and get a krewe together! Invite family, friends and co-workers to join your krewe and take that step to becoming a healthier person!
