Safe to Return: Scheduling Sports Medicine Appointments
Routine doctor’s visits are being rescheduled as we control the spread of COVID-19. Ochsner Sports Medicine departments are setting in place new measures to ensure you feel safe and comfortable visiting your doctor. Despite the new challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are committed to keeping our patients healthy, preventing injury as we all work toward a safe return to sports. Here are a few things you can expect when scheduling your appointments.
In order to ensure a clean, safe environment for patients, here are some things you can expect at your next doctor’s visit.
- Social distancing – To practice social distancing, chairs and tables have been spaced out, acrylic shields have been placed over registration desks and there are directions labeled via signs and on the floors to signify proper distances. Our staff are also practicing social distancing unless it is necessary to come in closer contact for patient care.
- Masks and temperature checks on arrival – When you enter a facility, you will participate in a mandatory temperature check as well as be given a mask to wear over your nose and mouth.
- Additional hand sanitizer available – To better accommodate the influx in hand sanitizer use by our patients and staff, we have increased the number of available stations. We encourage you to use these touchless stations before your visit, after meeting with your provider, after touching yourself or others, after using the restroom, before and after eating or drinking or after touching objects such as elevator buttons, pens or handrails.
- Regularly cleaning all public areas – While our staff is always diligent about cleaning our facilities, we have increased the number of times a day that our staff cleans all public areas. We are also undergoing facility improvements such as replacing worn-out furniture, repainting walls, replacing carpet, fixing torn or damaged wallpaper and ceiling tiles and removing outdated signage. If you believe an area is not up to the highest cleaning standards, please direct your feedback to the nearest information desk staff member to handle accordingly.
Scheduling Your Visits
As always, Ochsner Sports Medicine strives to provide same-day and next-day access when needed. Our team of orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, and advanced practice providers are committed to getting you scheduled in a timely and convenient manner.
These appointments can be made through your MyOchsner account. If you do not have a MyOchsner account, you can set one up or you can call 1-866-624-7637 during normal office hours to set up an appointment.
To find a doctor near you, head over to our find a doctor page and narrow your search by specialty and location. If there is an Ochsner athletic trainer who works with your team or school, they can help you expedite the appointment.
For patients with scheduled appointments in the next couple of months, a member of our team will be reaching out to you to see if your appointment qualifies for a virtual visit. We’re making individual recommendations about the appropriate steps to take. While some critical care will proceed as planned or be temporarily postponed, some care will be moved to virtual visits through MyOchsner.
During a virtual visit, you and your provider will meet using video on a phone, iPad, tablet or laptop. Your provider can answer any questions you have, address your healthcare needs and adjust your medications, if needed.
