12-Year-Old Fully Recovers After Heart Stopped Twice from COVID-19
Jennifer and Sean Daly experienced one of the scariest days of their lives on April 6, 2020, when their daughter, Juliet Daly, had to be rushed to St. Tammany Parish Hospital due to severe complications from COVID-19. After the emergency department at St. Tammany quickly went into action and intubated Juliet, she was airlifted by Vihn Nguyen and Erin Edmonson of the Ochsner Flight Care team to Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans with heart failure, causing her heart to stop beating for 2 minutes.
Dr. Jake Kleinmahon, medical director of pediatric heart failure and transplant at Ochsner Hospital for Children, was Juliet’s treating physician. Dr. Kleinmahon says, “One of the reasons why I love taking care of children is because children are so resilient. Juliet came in as sick as you possibly can, and within 10 days of leaving the hospital she is back to having her totally normal life.”
Due to the care Juliet received at Ochsner Hospital For Children and St. Tammany Health System, she has made a full recovery and is back to her normal life, which includes spending time with her parents and siblings and patching up her stuffed animals.
