Dr. Victoria McGhee Smith is the Associate Medical Director for Primary Care for the River Region at Ochsner Health. She is a member of the Ochsner Health Board of Directors and the Healthy State Advisory Board. She serves as the Ambulatory Quality Leader for Ochsner Health and Chair of the Health Equity Council. Dr. McGhee Smith is a member of the Ochsner Xavier Institute for Health Equity and Research leadership team. She has previously served as the Associate Medical Director for St Charles Parish Hospital. Dr. McGhee Smith graduated from Yale University in 1990 with a degree in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. Prior to entering healthcare, she served as an educator. She was a member of the first corps of Teach For America and taught elementary school in Inglewood, California. She later worked in adult education at El Camino Community College in Torrance, California.
Dr. McGhee Smith graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1998 and completed a Family Medicine Residency at LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans / Kenner Regional Medical Center in 2001. In addition to working for Ochsner Health, Dr. McGhee Smith has been an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Meharry Medical College and owned her own private practice. Dr. McGhee Smith speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese and has a large bilingual patient population. She is active as a speaker on health promotion and disease prevention for lay audiences. She has spoken about health at schools, on local news programs and at community forums. She is an active womens leader in the SGI-USA, a lay Buddhist organization. Dr. McGhee Smith has received many honors, including being named the 2018 City Business Woman of the Year. She is the proud mother of two sons.
